Coursework (50%)  to be completed by the end of Spring Term

The coursework (items 1 and 2 below) will be presented on a blog like this which I will mark and the exam board will mediate.

Written Exam (50%)   May 2016     –    Two essays in two hours

You will answer one question on your Music Industry Research and you will watch and analyse an unseen clip from a TV drama.


 YOUR MAIN TASKS

1.   The Preliminary Exercise

This is an introduction to the basic principles of filming and the 180 degree rule.

This is a continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

2.   Foundation Production

Research, plan and produce the titles and opening of a new fiction film (maximum 2 minutes)

3.   Research into the Music industry

This is a study of a particular record label within the contemporary music industry that targets a British audience, including its patterns of production, distribution, marketing and consumption by audiences.  This will be accompanied by study of the strategies used by record labels to counter the practice of file sharing and their impact on music production, marketing and consumption.

You will answer a written question (one essay) on this research in your exam next May.

4.   Textual Analysis of a clip from a TV drama

You will be given a 5 minute clip to analyse under exam conditions and then describe how the director has created meaning through editing, camera work sound and mise-en-scene.

You will answer a written question (one essay) on this research in your exam next May.

This is a typical clip you might be asked to analyse…..this one in relation to the representation of gender.
